Marshall Mode II review: Light as a feather, loud as hell

Marshall has a reputation for big sound and big style, and its first true wireless earbuds, the $179 Marshall Mode II, deliver on both traits in a big way.

Cool design ; Very comfortable ; Big, bold sound ; Good call quality ; Wireless charging

Average battery life ; No quick-charge ; No custom controls ; No noise cancellation

Marshall’s Mode II earbuds are stuck between rock and a hard price

Marshall is very late to the true wireless party.

Good sound quality if you get the fit right ; Compact case with wireless charging ; Full control over EQ

Mediocre transparency mode ; Average battery life ; Controls can’t be customized

Marshall’s new $179 Mode II true wireless earbuds feature the company’s signature style and good sound quality. But they’re only average elsewhere and feel a bit overpriced for what you get.

Marshall Mode II Review

Bass-forward, crisp sound signature ; Stylish, rock-inspired design ; Water-resistant earpieces and case

Poor mic signal ; Weak transparency mode

The Marshall Mode II earphones don't break new ground, but they deliver powerful audio performance in a stylish true wireless design.

Marshall Mode II review

The Marshall Mode II look and sound awesome, but could benefit from several improvements.

Cool nostalgic design ; Exceptional audio performance ; Companion app with sound customization ; Handsome tiny charging case

Disappointing battery life ; Weak transparency mode ; Poor touch controls

Great in some areas, flawed in many others, the Marshall Mode II rely on audio and design to do all of the heavy lifting.

Marshall's First Wireless Earbuds Have More Style Than Substance

These earbuds look good, but lack ANC.

Review: Marshall Mode II | Legendary Marshall Sound Directly Into The Ears Marshall Mode II

It's Marshall Mode II, one must have if one loves that it presses a little in the ears when playing music. Loud, of course.

Very engaging sound with good bass dynamics and strong rhythmic contrast. Small, light and waterproof with approved battery life.

No active noise reduction. The bass focus does not suit everyone's taste. Lacks some sophistication.

The strengths of the Marshall plugs are rhythm, bass dynamics, and the fat bass, which in no way overshadows any part of the frequency range, but nevertheless dominates the soundscape of all music. This means that Mode II is not among the most balanced...

Marshall Mode II review: No ANC, but AirPods-beating sound

The Marshall Mode II wireless earbuds rival the best in this price range for sound quality, but lack active noise cancellation and ruggedness.

Bright and lively sound ; Light and comfortable ; Case supports wireless charging

No noise cancellation ; Not as rugged as competitors

If those features aren’t important to you, and you’re picking your earbuds solely on sound and feel, the Mode II could be the ones to match your ears and style. Everyone else? Stick with Jabra.
