Acer Aspire R13 review

Combining ultrabook power and tablet portability, the R13's innovative design is foiled by a mediocre display and finicky touchpad.

Unfortunately, its own design flaws, such as a temperamental mouse and stubborn lid lip, hamper this convertible. Its lack of connectivity will steer away laptop professionals while the mediocre display will keep the R13 from truly replacing a tablet.

Acer's Aspire R 13 convertible-hybrid laptop has a clever hinge design, a fifth-generation Intel Core i5 processor, and delivers almost 11 hours of battery life.

Inadequate hardware documentation, pricing confusion on website.

Some of my all-time favorite laptops have been made by Acer, including the 17.1-incher I take with me on road trips. The Aspire R 13 has joined that list, and the low-end model I tested should be more than enough computer for the majority of users.

The Acer Aspire R 13 puts an Ezel hinge on a thin and light convertible-hybrid laptop with a WQHD touch screen. Its versatility, however, will cost you.

Solid construction. Intel Core i7 CPU. 512GB solid-state drive (SSD). WQHD screen.

Pricey. Lower battery life than rivals. Hinge that converts system to different modes is overly complicated.
