Hands on: MSI GF63 review

The narrow-bezel gaming laptop everyone can afford

Sharp, colorful bezel-less display ; Ample performance for new PC gamers ; Unbeatably low price point

Not upgradable

The MSI GF63’s slim chassis, ample gaming performance and affordable price point have made thin-and-light gaming laptops more accessible than ever before.

MSI GF63 first look review: A thin and light gaming laptop you can actually afford

MSI drops the weight, thins the bezels and shrinks the price for its latest 15.6in gaming laptop

With both MSI and Gigabyte launching affordable gaming laptops into the fray at this year’s Computex – not to mention Asus’ pricier ROG Strix Scar II – there’ll be some tight competition in the 15.6in laptop category towards the end of 2018. We’ll look...

MSI's GF63 laptop is a rig for gamers on a budget

MSI GF63 8RD

Inspired by MSI's slick GS65 Stealth Thin, the GF63 8RD is a one-cut-above budget gaming laptop with a trim chassis made possible by Nvidia's Max-Q tech. Only battery life keeps it from top marks.

Slick, lightweight design. Graphics capabilities in line with other laptops in its class. Aggressive pricing.

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti limits AAA gaming to sub-60fps at 1080p. Lackluster battery life.

Bottom Line: Inspired by MSI's slick GS65 Stealth Thin, the GF63 8RD is a one-cut-above budget gaming laptop with a trim chassis made possible by Nvidia's Max-Q tech. Only battery life keeps it from top marks.

MSI GF63 8RB

Relatively slim and lightweight; Fast performance ; Dim, dull display; Below-average battery life ; MSI's GF63 gaming laptop offers strong performance for the price, but a disappointing display and plastic chassis are hard to overlook.

MSI GF63 8RC (i5-8300H, GTX 1050) Laptop Review

Affordable narrow bezels. The GF63 is nearly the same size and weight as the GS65 but for hundreds of dollars less. MSI has created an excellent budget gaming system that's also light enough for schoolwork and travel.

significantly smaller and lighter than the GF62VR ; no performance throttling when gaming ; larger battery; respectable battery life ; upgradeable storage and RAM ; affordable starting price ; NVMe compatibility ; narrow bezels

no more SD card reader, mini DisplayPort, tri-zone lighting, or GTX 1060 options ; servicing requires breaking a factory seal ; smaller cooling solution than the GF62VR ; chassis and lid could be more rigid ; GPU temperature could be cooler ; limited...

The MSI GF63 lowers the price of entry for narrow-bezel gaming laptops to just $750 USD and it is significantly lighter and smaller than competitors in its price range. If you want a laptop for mainstream gaming that is also portable enough for...
