MSI X460DX: A Well-Rounded Laptop for Mobile Power Users

The MSI X460DX is a slim yet powerful laptop, and it carries a decent price tag. With two USB 3.0 ports, a second-generation Intel Core i5 processor, and a discrete graphics card under its hood, the X460DX will no doubt tempt any mobile power user.

Slim and light ; Two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI out

Touchpad is laggy ; Speakers are quiet, produce thin sound

The MSI X460DX is a slim yet powerful all-purpose notebook available at a decent price.

MSI X460DX Review

Yes, Virginia, there is such a thing as a powerful yet portable multimedia laptop that costs less than $900. Say hello to the MSI X460DX. Measuring one inch thin and weighing just over four pounds, this 14-inch notebook has 7.5 hours of battery life...

Almost 8 hours of battery life ; Thin and light design ; Good performance ; Good keyboard and touchpad

Overuse of glossy plastic ; Low screen resolution ; The MSI X460DX provides portable multimedia power and plenty of battery life for a modest price.

MSI X460DX 14" Core i5 Notebook Review

notebook landscape as it is today. Outside of those monster gaming laptops and desktop replacements that still demand their own massive amount of real estate, most everything else these days seems to be aiming for thin. MSI's lineup is no different,...

Thin-and-light design ; Responsive touchpad with gesture support ; Included optical drive ; Comfortable keyboard ; Fast for the price

No backlit keyboard ; Gets warm in heavy use ; Fans can get noisy ; Glossy, ho hum display ; Underwhelming battery life

In terms of its overall performance, the MSI X460DX fared well against other notebooks in its category. Having that discrete Nvidia GPU, coupled to a Core i5 CPU, certainly helps matters. In most of our benchmarks, the X460DX either led the way or...

MSI X460DX

The MSI X460DX is a very portable 14-inch laptop that has a solid, brushed-aluminum design with lots of offer. It has two of the latest USB 3.0 ports, an Intel Core i5 CPU, 6GB of RAM and discrete graphics. This is definitely a mobile laptop for power...

HOT

The performance and lite weight are the biggest pluses for this laptop. I suppose if I want to game or use graphics apps requiring the Nvidia card, I will add an external keyboard/mouse and only use it on a cooler.

Great Specs ; Video Card ; Very Lite ; Performance

Placement of the Nvidia Card ; The Nvidia card is located under the left palm rest. This is fine if using the integrated graphics card for web surfing or office app. However if gaming or using graphics intensive apps requiring the Nvidia card, the palm...

Great Laptop/Great Buy

So far this is the best laptop I've owned. It's unusual that a laptop at this price is this fast and looks good as well. Battery life is very long considering the specs of the hardware. My only complaint is that the fan runs all the time. But the fan...

Specs are great for the price ; Speed is very good ; Very lightweight ; Bright screen ; HDMI ; USB3 ; Battery Life. (average 6-7 hours) ; Does not run hot ; Low bloatware and easy to remove ; By the way did I say it's fast ; Yeah it's fast

Fan runs all the time but is quiet ; 1-year warranty and not 3-year

Great Laptop!!!

I'm very impress by the battery life on this machine.. of course if you are playing games and such it sucks down the battery but normal web browsing and word processing for school it battery lasts 6-7 hours... My Acer AO722 with the C-50 AMD chip only...

Sandy Bridge ; Fast Hard Drive ; Nivida GT540 w/ Optimus Tech ; USB 3 - very impressed with it over USB2 ; Good Keyboard - also a con see below ; LIGHT only 1lb more than my 12" Netbook ; THIN same thickness as my 12"Netbook (Acer AO722) ; AWESOME BATTERY

Keyboard is great except the right shift key is a little small and I'm getting use to it, but it was awkward at first.. other than that the keyboard is great and I can type very fast on it ; Trackpad works great, but it is very sensitive when typing...

Very good for the price

I've looked at the recent Acer laptops along with other brands and all of them had tradeoffs of one form or another. (the Acers have massive throtting issues due to heat) This is still the best bet you'll find.

I've been looking around for a laptop replacement for about six months now. I wanted a Sandy bridge chipset along with a discrete graphics card that was good enough to play games a little bit when needed and a good enough CPU to last a few years, but...

I don't like the fact that the fan is on all of the time. Granted it's fairly quiet but none the less it's a negative in my mind. The keys seem like they could have been made a bit bigger given the room, they do feel a tiny bit small

Don't Get this.

I had high hopes for this model but it was waste of money and my time. I tried RMA it too and msi just sent back same laptop without fixing anything. That means, there was nothing to fix coz this is the way this laptop is made. I ended up returning...

Good Spec on Paper ; Sharp looking

1. CPU overheating ; 2. GPU overheating ; 3. Battery life is bad. It's more like 4 hours, not 8 hours even on batter saving mode ; 4. Hard to open optical driver button ; 5. Loud and Heats up bad whenever you use gt540m ; 6. Optical drive shakes and...

Good

It's good portable laptop but I just wish battery life was longer. I could get 7 hours of wifi websurfing and watching youtube videos out of 8 hours+ battery life measured tablet pc(acer iconia a500) so I was kinda hoping to get at least 6 hours batter...

Good Spec for 14 inch laptop ; Slimer and lighter than most 14 inch laptop out there ; Good speaker for this size laptop

Battery life definitely isn't 8 hours+. I don't know how they measured this to get 8 hours+ but even on turbo battery safe mode + 30% brightness setting, you only get around 4 hours or so for wifi on watching youtube or websurfing and 2 hours for...
