Sony VAIO VGN-TZ17GN

Stylish design, minuscule size and weight, good battery life, well built

Not very powerful, limited specifications

The VAIO TZ17GN is an ideal ultraportable thanks to a compact, lightweight frame, good battery life and solid, if not outstanding performance. A stylish design sweetens the deal.

Sony VAIO VGN-TZ17GN/N

The Sony VAIO VGN-TZ17GN/N is more fragile than we'd like, especially at AU$3,599 -- but the feature set is quite impressive for an ultraportable.

Great screen ; Optical drive ; Fantastic battery life ; Feature strong for a portable ; Express card 34

Feels fragile ; No native digital video out ; Bland design

The Sony VAIO VGN-TZ17GN/N is a little more fragile than we'd like, especially at AU$3,599 -- but the feature set is quite impressive for an ultraportable. If you plan to keep it well protected while travelling, this might be the one for you.

Sony Vaio VGN-TZ17GN

If you're in the market for an ultra-portable and if the brand matters... take a look!

Good as an ultra-portable, great battery life, Intel U7600, very light

A bit sluggish (Vista), no leather bag, a little expensive

The Sony Vaio TZ17GN retails at Rs 1,14,900, and carries a one-year warranty. The pricing, we think, is slightly over the top. This one is good as an ultra-portable, it's light, and the battery life is amazing, though in the bargain performance has...

Sony VAIO VGN-TZ17GN/N

This is a fantastic little laptop that I have had for 7 months now. It is so light, has excellent battery life (I get 5.5 hours out of it on a regular basis, with wireless on and screen brightness & sound up) and is perfect for watching DVDs, surfing...

Looks great (in my opinion) ; Fantastic battery life ; Beautiful bright, clear screen ; inbuilt webcam & microphone ; Has a DVD multi drive

Expensive ; Screen does feel quite flimsy around the edges, but have never had a problem ; Got recalled for battery fault

Sony VAIO VGN-TZ17GN/N

Pray that the one you get doesn't have a HDD protection chip problem because sony australia won't be able to locate the problem or fix it. I had to take it back to Sony HK and pay $5000HK to get it fixed when it should have been covered by the warranty.

Lightweight ; Battery Life

Service centre is poor and lacking in service ; HDD slow ; Need to make your own recovery disk

Sony VAIO VGN-TZ17GN/N

Ok I bought the VGN-TZ28GN/X in Singapore with the 48GB SSD and 2GB ram and draft N wireless and I have to say its a pretty awesume laptop. The SSD makes a big difference in performance and the laptop even with Vista is faster and more resposive then...

SSD ; Draft N wireless ; Size and quality ; Battery life ; LED backed display ; Big saving buying in Singapore

Keyboard can be hard to see in low light due to the glare from the very bright LED display

Sony VAIO VGN-TZ17GN/N

My main problem with this is in Australia its a total rip off. I can save around $1000 aussie dollars buying it in Singapore.

Nice size and design

Lack of combined SSD and HD models in Australia ; Way to expensive in Australia ; No santa rosa chipset ; No Windows XP downgrade ; No draft N wireless like in Japan models ; No HSPDA in Austrlian models
