Sometimes you just need a basic laptop that won't hurt your wallet or your back. Toshiba Satellite L645D strives to fulfill that role. But while all low-cost laptops make some compromises, the L645D sacrifices some usability to achieve its target price.

Toshiba Satellite P50T review

 

Featuring a gorgeous 4K display, Toshiba prioritises image quality over battery life

Outstanding 4K display; Strong performance; Competitive price

Heavy; Poor battery life; Many Windows apps require updates for 4K display

The 4K display makes the P50T a superb laptop for image and video editing professionals. Just make sure you've got a power socket nearby.

Whether you're limited by your budget or just want netbook functionality in a more comfortable size, the Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4025 should fit the bill without emptying your wallet.

Low price. Distinctive design. Surprising features.

Purple shell might be off-putting to some. Cheap hardware limits use to basic functions.

Switched HDD to SDD

 

Just fixed this old laptop that had a dead HDD, so I ended up getting an A-DATA Pro Premiere 128 GB Solid State Drive and installed Window 8.1 Update 1. I set the BIOS to fast boot and this brought the machine back to life and feel very brand new.

Much better for work, music and video streaming, and check emails

Not ideal for gaming, heavy video and photo editing, and has a very low resale value.
