Sony NSZ-GS7 Google TV Internet Player

Sony is out to revolutionise your TV with its first Google TV add-on box. Or maybe not.

YouTube app is gorgeous ; Streaming quality is good ; Remote control keyboard is responsive

Nowhere near enough dedicated apps ; Extensive reliance on open internet doesn't make for a comfortable user experience ; Current firmware is buggy

It’s also worth adding here that we opted not to make the Google TV remote capable of operating our TV and AV receiver, even though the option for this is there. Why? Because frankly using the remote just for doing all the Google TV stuff is...

Sony NSZ-GS7 review

Has potential, but needs more apps to realise it

Nice apps ; very usable Chrome browser ; platform has lots of potential

Doesn’t do the basics you might expect ; app store is currently light on content

It’s got potential, but the first Google TV device needs more apps in order to realise it

Sony NSZ-GS7 review

Google TV is finally here and (for now) it's a little Sony box. Is this the Holy Grail of media streaming?

High performance, full Chrome browser ; Simple and effective TV interface ; Superb movie on demand entertainment

Cluttered remote control ; Lacking go-to apps

Loads of potential, but Google TV needs far more apps to make it the best out there

Sony NSZ-GS7 review

Can the Sony's first Google TV box app the ante?

Unique Google TV platform ; Chrome browser supports Flash video ; Handy HDMI switching ; Excellent YouTube app ; Live thumbnail while browsing

Limited Google Play apps ; Complex remote ; Expensive

Owners of smart TVs are used to apps like YouTube and the BBC iPlayer, and even the ability to surf the web, but Sony's refreshed attempt at Google TV seeks to streamline the whole process by combining a Chrome browser with a selection of Google Play...

Sony NSZ-GS7 Internet Player with Google TV review

Media streaming set-top boxes are nothing new, but Sony's latest device takes a huge leap from the norm, being the first we've seen to use the Google TV operating system, which is a big-screen version of the Android OS found on smartphones. Available...

An interesting first outing for Google TV, but we don’t think it’s ready for the big time

Sony NSZ-GS7 Google TV review

The Sony NSZ-GS7 Internet Player with Google TV is a stylish, slim black set-top box that won't look out of place in the most stylish of living rooms. All the ports and the power cable sit nicely around the back, and a single white LED blinks out from...

Well-built and full-featured, the Sony NSZ-GS7 Internet Player with Google TV is a slick consumer device that will look good in any living room. The trouble right now is that Google TV doesn't really offer enough to justify outlay.

Sony NSZ-GS7 review

Google TV has always been an ambitious idea. In its ideal form, you'd be able to access all your home theater content -- including your cable/satellite box, streaming video services and content from the Web -- in a single user interface, powered by...

The Sony NSZ-GS7 has a vastly improved, double-sided remote for Google TV, with a large touch pad and a full keyboard. It's a small, stylish box and the only current set-top box that supports Google TV.

The Google TV software continues to disappoint. There aren't dedicated apps for major streaming services like Amazon Instant, Hulu Plus, and MLB.TV, nor is Google's own movie rental service supported. Major content providers like ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox,...

The Sony NSZ-GS7 has sleek hardware and an innovative remote, but it's hampered by the still too-limited and frustrating Google TV software.

Internet Player with Google TV

Sits between HDMI devices and TV ; Controller makes web use very palatable ; Very vesatile ; Well engineered ; Lots of potential ; Google Chrome ; Good media file support

Chronic lack of dedicated apps ; User interface might put some off ; Some lock ups ; Price seems a little high
