It's got everything we want from a good media player on paper; but is that enough?

Cowon's iAudio 9 is a nippy little MP3 player that does much right - unfortunately, pitted against the Apple iPod nano it just doesn't shine
Smooth touchscreen interface ; slim, small device ; smart menus ; FM radio recording
AV performance is bettered elsewhere ; control buttons on sides are a little fussy ; only accepts low-res video
This Cowon doesn’t do too much wrong – and wins plaudits for its new interface – but we find it hard to recommend with the nano in mind

The market for PMPs is not as happening as it is for mobile phones. However, Cowon has been steadily launching quality portable media players for a while now. Its latest offering, the Cowon iAudio 9 is a sleek portable media player that excels in media...
The Cowon iAudio 9 is slim, lightweight, and power-packed and offers respectable sound. Make sure you are comfortable with the touchpad first though.

A clunky touch interface and some unintuitive menus leave this far behind the iPod nano.
We're unimpressed with the Cowon iAudio 9. For £99 inc VAT for 8GB we'd expect something that at least comes close to the ease of use of the iPod nano, and with an 8GB version of that available for only £20 more we just can't see any reason to shell...

The iAudio 9 is a great player for the price with just a singular downside, it doesn't come with an AV cable.

Sleek looking MP3 player from Cowon with touchpad controls. It has great set of features, excellent sound but quirky controls
Good set of features ; Sleek-look ; Excellent Sound ; Wide format support (FLAC,APE,XviD ) ; TV-out
Proprietary port ; Quirky touch controls ; A bit pricey
The Cowon is slim, lightweight, and power-packed and offers respectable sound. Make sure you are comfortable with the touchpad first though.

The Cowon iAudio 9 is one of the best budget MP3 players. It comes with a lot of features like an FM radio, voice recording, and video playback. It also combines excellent audio quality with a stylish design.

Is it worth your money?
Good display, good sound quality, good responsive touch controls, good interface and customization, speaker

Cowon's 8GB player disappoints, especially in light of Apple's iPod range.
