While standalone flatbed scanners may be increasingly scarce, the sheet-fed (or document) scanning sector continues to introduce new models.
The Plustek SmartOffice PS286 Plus lacks the portability of the Fujitsu, but it is far more functional overall. The TWAIN-compliant drivers are an asset, and the software bundle is well thought out. With a little training, this could be a very...

Plustek's new portable desktop ADF scanner, the SmartOffice PS286 Plus, combines versatile and fast duplex document scanning with a small footprint. It's intended for personal or front-desk use, and can scan plastic ID or credit cards.
Handles business cards and plastic cards very well; high daily duty cycle; compact; easy to use; creates searchable PDFs
Software looks old-fashioned; overlapping program functions; scan settings very detailed and not very intuitive
With good paper handling, credit card scanning and a decent software bundle, the SmartOffice PS286 Plus is a good choice for those needing a versatile, compact scanner.

The Plustek SmartOffice PS286 Plus is modestly-priced for a desktop document scanner that provides decent speed and a solid feature set for a small or home office.
Good price for its capabilities. Scans in duplex. 50-sheet ADF. Multiple scanning methods and destinations. Comes with soft carrying case.
Single-character display.
As a modestly-priced document scanner, the Plustek SmartOffice PS286 Plus can get the job done for small or home offices needing to scan up to about 1,500 pages per day. It's not as fast as the Editors' Choice Canon imageFormula DR-C125, but it...

Fast and doesn't jam. Software has lots of features yet easy to set up. Confirmed to work well with Windows 7. Bought several for the office

Consumer review (newegg.com)
I would likely not have had as much difficulty with setup if I took the time to really explore the software
The best tech support I ever experienced. Mike and Ed worked me through the setup and made several call-backs while they research my questions and problems. The scanner works well, is easy to maintain and is built well. It has a good daily duty cycle...
The software is not as intuitive as I would have preferred, but that could be me. With Mike and Ed around I was up and running though
