At 10 inches, the smallest and cheapest Windows 8 convertible is fantastic but flawed.
Lightest & cheapest Win 8 hybrid ; Superb battery life ; Good screen and speakers ; Flexible hinge ; Well-built
Atom performance still disappoints ; Cramped keyboard with poor layout ; Touchpad buttons stiff ; No bundled or optional stylus
The 10-inch Acer Iconia W510 comes very close to being our favourite Windows 8 convertible tablet/laptop with Atom inside. It’s smaller and lighter than 11.6-inch rivals, but doesn’t compromise on resolution, connectivity or battery life to get there....

More tablet than convertible ultrabook, unfortunately
Great battery life ; Sturdy hinge ; Super portable ; The full compatibility of Windows 8
Cramped, shallow keyboard ; Few full size ports ; Overpriced ; Underpowered ; Top heavy
Put it this way: one of the nicest things we can say about the W510 is that it has a sturdy hinge. It's cramped, underpowered, top heavy and overpriced. The hinge is good, but it's not good enough to compensate for all of that.

Keyboard and battery aside, you can get more Windows 8 for your money elsewhere
Full Windows 8 ; Keyboard dock included ; Good combined battery life
Unintuitive OS ; So-so AV quality

Acer announced the Iconia W510 and W700 tablet at its press conference in Taipei on Monday and Pocket-lint was on hand to get a quick play with the two

The 16:9 aspect ratio of the Acer Iconia W510's 10.1-inch, 1366 by 768 display is mirrored by the unit's 10.2-inch by 7.3-inch form --a form quite common in the Windows 8 tablet realm. The wide aspect is both good and bad news; While 16:9 is perfect...
This widescreen Windows 8 tablet is great for video, if not books, and the docking station models are serviceable as netbook-sized laptops.

As a tablet with a keyboard docking solution, we were quite fond of the Acer Iconia W510, but its R10 000 pricetag makes it compete more closely with the larger Samsung Ativ which boasts better connectivity options.

Acer's Iconia W510 works just fine as a standalone Windows8 tablet, but comes with a slimline keyboard with securedocking system for those times when you need a bit more -- andthat's where the problems start.
Lightweight, decent price, solid docking hinge, good batterylife
Slow processor, doesn't balance very well in dock
The Acer Iconia W510 is a good-looking tablet with a securelyfastening dock on the accompanying keyboard that gives you instantlaptop capability. It has a good array of ports and full-fatWindows 8 but it's let down badly by its underpowered...

This tablet shows just what a full-blown Windows 8 tablet can achieve – only the build and design disappoint
Thanks to the presence of Intel’s latest Atom technology, Cloverview, the Acer runs a 32-bit installation of full Windows 8. There’s a dual-core 1.8Ghz Atom Z2760 processor accompanied by 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of solid-state storage. Internet Explorer...

The W510 is a relatively inexpensive hybrid offering best-in-class battery life. Still, its cramped, netbook-like keyboard could be a dealbreaker.
Having met with Acer's product team in person (and having read its executives quoted in the press), it's obvious the company is eager to shed its reputation for cheap products and be taken more seriously as an OEM capable of building premium PCs. You...
