Despite a few quirks, Honeywell's Lyric makes it easy to save energy by intelligently controlling your home's temperature on the fly with the help of your smartphone.
Despite some growing pains, the Lyric is a capable first attempt at competing against the likes of Nest. Its features make it a satisfactory choice for a primary home; but those looking after a second home may question its reliability until some...

The Honeywell Lyric is a stylish Wi-Fi thermostat that you can control from your smartphone. It uses geofencing to conserve energy while you're away, and to heat or cool your home before you return.

This geofencing-enabled thermostat may look like the Nest, but it defines "smart" very differently.
Whatever your schedule, the Lyric can use its 500-foot or 7-mile adjustable geofencing feature to adapt to it. The thermostat and app are clear design upgrades from the brand's Wi-Fi Smart thermostats.
The thermostat isn't compatible with certain routers, it periodically shifted to Away mode when I was home, and the app doesn't always label your heating and cooling status, making at-a-glance monitoring of your Home or Away settings a real challenge.
While the Lyric has a ton of potential, the app needs some major updates to make its usability and performance on par with the Nest.

Yep, it resembles the Nest. Nope, it doesn't perform like it.
Uses geo-fencing to determine when you're home and away ; Measures indoor humidity and reports the weather ; Easy to install
An abundance of plastic makes it look and feel cheap ; No web portal for manual programming ; Unfavorable price/performance ratio
The Nest looks and feels like a premium product on your wall. The abundance of plastic in Honeywell’s Lyric makes it feel cheap—even though it’s anything but. And where the Nest lets you bypass its much-hyped learning feature to program it manually,...

A 21st-century variant of its classic in-home device, the Honeywell Lyric thermostat can turn on automatically when you arrive home (and off when you leave), but it isn't as elegant as the ecobee3 or the Nest Learning Thermostat.
Attractive design ; Easy setup ; Simple smartphone controls
Geofencing feature works intermittently ; Doesn't work with all routers ; Fewer features than Nest
The Honeywell Lyric Thermostat cleverly uses your smartphone and geofencing to turn itself on and off, but it doesn't go far enough for a next-gen thermostat.
Consumer review (cnet.com)
I saw that this CNET review was a little dated so I decided to add my two cents.
Geo-fencing, Auto Changeover, works without C -Wire.
A few road bumps at setup, App still needs updating,
Consumer review (tigerdirect.com)
Surprised tiger direct was able to get this so fast! Got mine today and was up and running in 15 minutes. My wife and two kids both have the app and already see that I'll be saving a lot on cooling costs with its geofencing feature. I never understood...
